Understanding Haunting And Haunted Places

October 29, 2008

Haunted PlacesWe all enjoy a good ghost story. Our imagination perks up further when we are told that the incident was a real one. Some feel envious of those who have had firsthand encounter with ghosts and spirits. This thrill to be a part of the unknown lingers silently in many. Some satisfy this need by reading books, watching scary movies while others go scouting for haunted locations.

There are many unanswered questions regarding haunting. Many quest for answers like – Why are places haunted? Does it mean if someone dies that location automatically becomes spooky? Do ghosts and apparitions only lurk in castles and pubs? And the lists continue…

A place is regarded as haunted when an entity or ghost is attached to that area. It could be because of sudden untimely death, suicide or murder. The soul is trapped in that event and roams around trying to find its killer or just lost in that anguish. This is usually termed by paranormal investigators as “traditional haunting.”

There are various instances where paranormal researchers have found that spirits don’t haunt their homes but a public place or hotel. This could be due to the attachment to that place or a person who is associated to that place.

On many occasions it has been seen that employees of a hotel or pub tend to haunt their workplace. It could be that these souls don’t know where to go after death and like to be attached to the place where they spent most of their life.

They could be used to a routine and find it comforting to be at a place which is familiar to them. Some may not even be aware that they are dead and continue working. When they find other people (living beings) using their space then they get annoyed and show signs of retaliation. This we see as a haunting.

Ninety percent of the time the hauntings are caused due residual energy. This residue of energy is unconnected to specific entities. It is the imprint left by several people over the years and sometimes even centuries back. This is one of the reasons why at many places like hotels, theatres, pubs, museums, train stations we hear footsteps, tapping and other strange noises.

Ghostly sightseeings are always debateable and few hotel owners use this as a good marketing gimmick to allure enthusiasts to explore their hotel. So the next time, you see shadowy figures rest assured that you are not losing your mind but among the others who understand the secrets of the paranormal world.
