Declutter Your Home

June 15, 2009

Organize Your Home An untidy home is a direct reflection of its inhabitants. It can get gender oriented. The homemaker is usually stereotyped and is expected to look into these matters but now men too are held accountable for the upkeep of their love nest.

The biggest challenge in maintaining a smooth running and functional homely environment is clutter control. Families fail to realize the clutter around them until they start tripping over things; misplace their everyday stuff which gets hidden under a pile load of other articles and an occasional encounter with bugs and roaches.

Scattered clothes, toys, stacked unwashed dishes and so on are usually strewed across the flooring which creates a filthy environment. A cluttered house impacts the mental stability of its occupants. It brings about chaos, stress, emotional turbulence, a feeling of helpless and other negative emotions. It blocks the positive energy called “chi” which is known to bring about prosperity into the lives of the inhabitants.

Reasons For Clutter

1) Laziness-Procrastination and laziness lays the foundation for clutter. People don’t feel like arranging their things and keeping them in the right place.

2) Impulse Buying-Many times, people buy clothes, shoes and other accessories on impulse. They purchase them without thinking on how they will maintain them. Most of us always complain of lack of space which is the next reason for clutter.

3) Lack Of Storage Space-Clothes are overstuffed in cupboards, shoes out of racks, books and CDs scattered around the floor… does this sound familiar?

4) Hoarding-People don’t like parting with their personal possessions even if they don’t need them. They store it for a rainy day which is just an excuse. Clothes that don’t fit, stained, faded are never discarded.

Organizing Clutter

This may seem like a big challenge initially but once you know what needs to be kept or thrown away, then everything falls into place. Here is a simple plan to organize your home.

1) Start small. Take each section of the house and start arranging things.

2) Keep garbage bags handy so you can discard things as you proceed.

3) Make two piles, one to discard and the other to give away. Wearable clothes can be given away to charitable organizations. Similarly toys and other things that you don’t need can be given to someone who can make good use of them.

4) Maintain a dedicated space to most things like a laundry basket for your laundry, a toy basket where all the games can be stored etc.

5) These dedicated areas should be small so that it curbs your habit of hoarding.

6) Guide family members to adopt these de-cluttering habits so that they can also help in the general upkeep of the household.

7) The moment the clutter gets cleared; there will be an instant gratification to the senses as there is good circulation of fresh air. The bugs and insects will leave you alone. The overall environment will be lighter with the stale air driven away.

Decluttering your home is the best way to maintain sound health- emotionally, spiritually and physically. It keeps you in control of your household and strengthens your inner self to manage it with pride and dignity.

Toilet Paper Showcases Horror Stories

June 11, 2009

Japanese WritersGhosts, apparitions linger everywhere and my experiences have led me to believe that they are with you even when you need to spend a penny. For those who use a different currency, I meant that ghosts are with you in the toilet as well. My previous post – The Haunted Bathroom Stall will clarify exactly what I mean.

Traditionalists in Tokyo believe that ghosts hide in bathrooms. The residents construct their lodgings in such a way that the toilets are located in the back areas of the house. They follow this principle as it is closely associated with their religious beliefs. Some children dread going to the toilets especially at night as some parents and elders take this opportunity to tease and scare little children into believing that the ghosts will pull them down into the dark hole of the loo. Sounds like a good way to discipline them.

These incidents seem to have inspired Koji Suzuki. Does the name sound familiar? I am sure if it doesn’t, his previous work – Ring, will certainly tingle your memory. This movie was made in Japanese and English versions and certainly had created a rave few years ago. It definitely topped my list of best horror movies.

Koji Suzuki has found a unique way to get close to his fans and this time with a sinister twist. His new story “Drop” is set in a public restroom. No big deal right? Hold on, there is more… This story will be printed on three feet roll of toilet paper. Each roll will carry several copies of nine chapter novella with a price tag of 2.20$ a roll. This will definitely revolutionize the toilet paper industry.

After reading Drop, I am sure, one doesn’t need to indulge in a high fibre diet at breakfast; the scare will definitely do the trick. Wink!!

Managing Thunder Thighs

June 9, 2009

How To Get Skinny ThighsThunder thigh is the term commonly used to denote women with heavy legs. Many Bollywood actresses are famous for having thunder thighs. While women try hard to reduce these fat layers, some men on the other hand find this very sexy.

Women with a pear-shaped body commonly suffer from heavy thighs. Indian women are prone to this type of body structure. The thigh region is also prone to develop cellulite which adds to the bulkiness and makes the legs look unattractive.

Managing thunder thighs is not difficult. Selecting silhouettes that are well-fitted at the waist and flowing around the thighs can work wonders. The length of the skirt should be based on the height of the woman and should rest at the narrowest part of the leg. Usually the calves are narrow so if the skirt length stops there, then the emphasis moves away from the thighs. Avoid wearing skinny jeans and Capris. Select trousers with flowing material and with straight fit. Boot-legged cuts in jeans will be a disaster.

Many women go on variety of diets to lose weight at their thighs. No diet gives weight loss for a specific section or provides spot reduction. A diet should be low in fat, rich in protein and contain medium amounts of carbohydrate. Exercising regularly helps to make the thighs thinner.

How To Achieve Thinner Thighs

1) Under the guidance of a trainer, exercises should be undertaken to achieve thinner thighs. The reason behind this is that one needs to know the correct posture and angles in which the exercises should be done. Failing to know the techniques may cause injury to the knees, lower back and spine.

2) Cardiovascular exercises are ideal to burn calories. This can be in the form of jogging, power walking and even skipping. One can use the treadmill, cross training machine, arc trainer and stair climbers. Climbing regular stairs with swiftness also provides a good loss in calories.

3) Lunges, swats and their variations with the help of dumbbells can help provide firmness to the thighs.

4) After any leg workout, stretching the quadriceps, hamstrings, muscles of the gluts and calves are a must, otherwise there is stiffness and soreness of the muscle the following day.

Women should not be conscious of their body. We all have flaws. Some are more noticeable than others. The best way is to work at it, dress appropriately to accentuate the other features of the body, and above all be confident of yourself.
