Boost The Morale Of A Lone Ranger

July 13, 2007

We all are lone rangers, looking for our niche. Whether we are looking to start a new career or decide to be our own boss. Self-starters are always appreciated and envied by those who are full time employed in an organization. But what they don’t realize is that a self-employed person has to work three times more than others.

1) A freelancer has to define his work schedule. If he is working from home then he can easily get distracted with the activities of the family. He needs to find a quiet place to work.

2) He has to market himself well with his potential customers.

3) A freelancer whether he is a web developer, writer, graphic artist, musician, all of them get pulled in their comfort zone. They think that customers or contracts will come to them just because they have fancy visiting cards, letter heads and office space. But the reality is not so. They have to go out and meet people constantly and make themselves right in the centre of attention.

4) Self-discipline is crucial. It is only then they will develop the habit of making regular phone calls and doing follow-ups to meet their target.

5) The flexible timings and the freedom to work at one’s own pace can sometimes hinder their progress. The freelancer has to remember that there is no pay check (cheque) coming until he has work in hand.

Every job has its positive aspects and drawbacks but that doesn’t deter achievers. Step up, face the challenge, then nothing is impossible.
