Google Wordmaster Contest – A Preview
May 17, 2007
The mind needs stimulation otherwise it gets cozy inside a box. Some experts call this lateral thinking. It is not always possible to self-motivate and expect friends and close comrades to pamper your needs. Every individual has their own set of things to do in life. So where should you go or what should you do?
Try participating in contests. Use the theme that they give and create the story in your style. If you want to try the contest then you can but while writing if you feel that you can actually create something more and it is going beyond the limited word count of the contest then don’t stop yourself. Go on …. Entering contests has its own rules - pros and cons. There are tips and pointers available on many websites and many experts have a set of signs for writers on how to avoid getting trapped in scams.
But you can always use their theme as the beginning of your story and carry on from there. Participation in contests gives you an idea on how much you can think out of the ordinary. Do you have your own writing voice and are you able to communicate it well to your readers? Can you make them see what you are seeing?
Last year, I participated in Google Wordmasters Contest which was to be held simultaneously in 9 cities across the country. First three hundred entries were accepted and were invited to write something for the organizers for two hours.
Are you surprised? Well, I was when I first heard about it. I always liked a challenge and it was going to be a new experience. A means to understand my chain of thoughts, evaluate and understand what the current status of the writing world was. I could be meeting interesting people and find my characters in them for my next story. Possibilities were endless. Challenging the unknown is the best way to explore the core of mind.
