Is Writing A Real Profession Or A Hobby?
May 16, 2007
Praise, appreciation and acknowledgement delights everyone especially writers. People in other professions rarely understand what a writer has to go through to get a story published.
“Writing… is that really a profession or a hobby?”
I have been asked this so many times that I just smile and pretend I didn’t hear it. Then there are days when I take the time to explain to them how a writer actually works and comes up with an idea. How they market it and so on. In the previous post, we were discussing how to pick up those feelings of helplessness and failure. This can transpire frequently among those whose family and friends are involved in more lucrative professions.
Reading the biography of successful people can work like magic. It becomes easy to relate and understand their long years of trials and tribulations until success became synonymous with their name. You can read about a writer that you admire and aspire to be or it could be an actor or business tycoon.
Nothing comes easy in life, well for some maybe but majority of us have to work at it. So keep writing and one day, you never know your writing could be part of history.
