Terror Of The White Page-Part 2

May 9, 2007

The morning dawns and you eye your writing pad again. The reluctance is overwhelming but you decide to make an attempt. After writing the date, you may wonder what would you write.Writers are advised to write daily. This helps them refine their skill, even if that means writing one page a day. But beginning this habit is sometimes the hardest.

Tips in writing books tell us that we should just write whatever we feel like at that very moment. A simple thought that occurs in your present state of consciousness like a visit to the supermarket. You could write about the most awaited sale of the year or a funny incident that happened while you were waiting at the check-out counter. If this does not stimulate your creativity then how about writing something based on the date. Maybe last year, this time what were you doing or you are looking forward to your birthday or a family gathering.

In the Writer’s Journal, there is a contest section where they provide a line and one has to base a story on that exact line. This is a great way to begin your writing. If that does not pep you up then pick up the headline of your newspaper and use that as your starting point of a great story.Whatever it takes you have to make an attempt to begin writing. After a couple of lines, you will get the flow of words and the plot will intertwine on its own.

The white paper is no longer a threat; it is now covered in black and blue ink… You have made your mark.
