Thanks a lot for the vital information on Ashta Vinayaka. I belong to north india and planning to visit Ashta Vinayak in the coming month. Could you please suggest whether to hire a cab or any packaged tour bus since i would be travelling with my parents. Also if you could give any references on some reliable Cab/Tour operators and the best months on which i can avoid heavy rush.

Thank you once again.

Dear Sir,

with due respect, I would like to share my strange experience with you and therby ask your suggestions on the same.

Last day when I went to Lulu market for Shopping, A tomota with inscribed ganeshji fell into my hand and I had bought it and brought it to my home..

When I showed this to my husband he was first surprised then after sometimes he was saying that I am becoming too much superstitious & there is nothg wrong with a tomato to be defective and look like a truck...

But, I am really confused and would like to know whether its good or bad to have somethg like that ...

Kindly Advise

Thanking you in anticipation

Hello Saroj,
Thanks for writing in. I am glad that our article has been of some help to you. August is a good time because the Shravaan mahina will be over by then and the mad rush will be lesser. It will still be the monsoons in August so the roads maybe a little bumpy.
There is no tough climbing except the stairs at Lenyadri. But you can do it at your own pace and wear a good pair of walking shoes. As you are new to these parts, I would recommend that you book your journey with a tour operator that has a bus service. This way you will always be accompanied by other pilgrims and these agencies usually provide a guide. This will be a safer option rather than a private car. As I mentioned earlier, August is still monsoon season in Western India, so bad roads, unexpected road mishaps can be a hinderance.
Regarding your last question. There is nothing like you have to finish the journey in 2 days. The eight effiegies take 3 days by any tour operator and this too is pretty hectic. You cannot finish in 2 days and if you somehow manage, it will mean you hardly spent any time with the Darshan of the Lord.
So just take it easy and plan the trip peacefully.
Best Of Luck

Hello Nayna,

Thanks a billion...as i was looking for someone to tell me and guide about Astha Vinayak yatra. It was very informative and i am want to make this blessed yatra with Lord Ganesha's blessings around mid august 2009. Is this a good time? I am from Malaysia, i am not so used to many tough climbing. But my desire is strong. Is there is private car and where i can hire without much hassel. I dont know much about the place and dont want to be taken for a ride! I need a trustworthy guide. Is it true i have to complete this yatra within 2 days? Once again, thank you.

Hi Sanjay,
What can I say, if you have already made plans, I don't want to dampen your spirit. I am sure you have planned thinking of the long weekend ahead. But honestly, it is hot everywhere and if you see the temperatures, it is truly soaring. Ideally, since this journey requires climbing lot of stairs, incline walking and car/bus journey, people prefer going in the monsoon months or end of the year when there is a slight drop in temperature. But like i said, if you have made plans then go along and see how it goes. Opt for air-conditioned coaches if your using the facilities of a tour operator, drink plenty of fluids, fresh fruits and chant His name. Things will work out.
Good Luck

Hi Murali,
Thanks for your encouraging comment and appreciation. There are several tour operators available from Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur who have buses- both AC and Non AC. Alternatively you can also hire a private car and complete the journey. A google search gives options of Samsan travels, Nivalink etc.

Hi Geeta,
You are absolutely right. The journey is supposed to start from Moregaon and end with Moregaon. But none of the bus services or private tour operators follow it. So people are forced to make use of what is available. Not everyone can afford or find it comfortable to drive down the narrow Ghat roads on their own.

It is completely your decision whether you want to hire a private car or drive down with your family and complete the darshan as prescribed in the religious texts.
Best of Luck
