Wonderful … This is quite a bit of useful information on Sankasthara Chatutri. Good effort.

I would like to add a few more points here:
1. Offer Jaggery (gud) to lord ganesha everyday.
2. Offer Grass to lord ganesha everyday.
3. Offer red flower to lord ganesha everyday.
4. Number 3 is favorite of lord ganesha. Hence items in multiples of 3, 12, 21 are offered.
5. Tuesday is important for lord ganesha.
6. Chant “Om gam ganapathay namaha” for 21 times before doing any auspicious work like signing a contract, depositing money, attending an interview and so on.
7. Red is an important color which impresses ganesha. So wear red on tuesday.

Hi Nayna,

I am thinking of fasting and worshipping Mangal graha and Ganesha. I heard that fasting at tuesday is for worshipping Mangal and wednesday is for ganesha. Actually I m doing it for my little princess of 6th month running for her mangal dosh.
I would be so grateful if you guide me the correct way of performing fasting and clear me out the processes and the reasons behind doing all these things.

Hi Nayna

Very nice information provided in this blog. I have a question for you. My sister has been keeping Sankasti vrat from past 3 year (4th Year will be completed nex month, on Karva chauth), She want to do udhapan on vrat on completing 4th year. Could you please let me know the procedure for performing updhapan. Like, do we need to serve any specific number of brahim or jus offring clothes, flower to the presit and god should be fine.. Kindly let me know the procedure as soon as possible. That will be of great help to me. :)

hi..i want to do fasting for lord ganesh..through the post i have came to know that we shuold do fasting on tuesday ….can u plz suggest me when is the time to start the first fasting is there any particular date..and how to break the fasting..and the mantra ….can u plz tell me in detail the way to break fasting and the puja i shuld perform….

Hello again Milan,
18th Feb 2010 is Vinayak Chaturthi but this takes place every month, just like Shiv ratri. I am not aware of what putra ganapati vrata is. But I am sure of the Sankasti dates that is posted on this blog. But they are according to Indian panchang. You will have to look for your time zone timings for moon rise.

You will have to consult the person who has told you to keep such a fast. But please note that 18th Feb is NOT sankasti.

Dear Nayna,
Thank you for your post. I am new to this, and was just told that if I keep a fast on Feb 18th which is a big Ganpati day, it will help in easing of obstacles.
I was also told it was sankashti, but when I checked online on what was special about feb 18th 2010, it said it was Putra Ganpati day, so could you please help me out either ways, by letting me know how to go about it.

Hello Milan,
You will have to fast according to your time zone. How you choose to fast is your personal choice- with or without food and water.

Please re-read our post on Sankasti to understand the meaning correctly. It is mandatory to open the fast by paying respects to Chandra Dev or Moon God.

I don’t understand by what you mean that Sankasti has started in India? Sankasti for the month of Feb 2010 is already over on the 2nd of Feb and it was Angarika. Even Ganesh Jayanti was over in Jan. So what fast are you talking about?

We have a post that lists all the dates of sankasti for 2010. Kindly go through those dates and compare it with the central time zone and fast accordingly.

Hi,
I am in US, CST time zone. Should I fast according to the Indian time or US time?
I plan on not having even water the whole day, like in shivratri. Do I have to break the fast at moonrise?
Please be kind to answer at the earliest, as Sankashti has begun in India.
