A Way Out Of Bad Dieting Tips

September 10, 2007

bad diet  Sometimes we overdo with our eating from the information see on TV or learn from friends. Find out how to unlearn those sinful habits and become more conscious of what you eat.

1) Eating muesli is healthy but it doesn’t mean that one can eat unlimited amounts. Large portions of healthy foods can still make you fat. For example, some of the luxury muesli brands are packed with dried fruit and nuts, containing around 350 calories per recommended 35g serving.

Your Way Out: Avoid luxury brands. Go for plain muesli or choose plain porridge oats topped with seeds and fresh berries. They are less fattening than nuts and dried fruit. Most porridge brands come in sachets so you know exactly how much portion is supposed to be consumed and you won’t be tempted to overeat

2) Many people eat a small portion of a healthy dinner and then indulge in a fat-filled dessert. If one is constantly restricting meals and filling up on junk food then the diet is seriously not working. The diet gets imbalanced with the high intake of fat and sugars while the body gets only handful amounts of nutrients. Not eating properly at meal times can lead to binge eating. Your Way Out: Make sure that you eat proper meals and avoid snacking. For lunch, swap the dressing-free salad for vegetable soup and a whole wheat sandwich. Include slow release carbohydrate at every meal too such as oats, whole wheat pasta etc.

3) The trouble with light or healthy snacks is that they lull you into false sense of security. A chocolate bar states that it contains only 100 calories. So it is easy to pack in 2-3 or more of this and before you know it, you have consumed more calories which you would have got from eating a slice of cake. Light snacks are never filling so they make you feel that you are on a diet.

Your Way Out: If you like indulging in something sweet then go for the real thing. That way you feel that you have had your day’s treat. You can eat half of it and store the rest for the next day.

4) Many people believe that going to the gym three times a week gives them the right to eat whatever they want and crave. But actually if they do so then all the effort that they put in the gym, doesn’t really help in slimming and toning the body.

Your Way Out: Avoid doing the same exercise routine daily, otherwise the body gets used to it and stops burning as many calories. Keep varying your routine with swimming, or power walking then jogging and light weights. Always eat the right foods before your workout so you are not too hungry afterwards. Then you are more prone to eating junk food. Eat something light before a workout like oatcakes or an orange. This will boost your energy levels. Sip water before, during and after your workout to ward off hunger.

5) Creamy cocktails and sugary pops are packed with calories. Drinks such as orange and fruit smoothies too will make you gain weight if you drink them too much. A glass of orange juice contains around 100 calories, so if you have 3-4 glasses a day that is an extra meal’s worth of calories. Smoothies containing yoghurt or coconut can contain over 250 calories per bottle.

Your Way Out: Avoid frizzy drinks, fruit juices and smoothies. Drink only plain water or tea without milk and sugar. They have zero calories and perfect for every occasion. An Extract taken from Daily Mirror
