Easy Yoga For Backaches
July 28, 2007
In the previous post “Everyday Backaches And Pains” we had given the basic causes of backaches. Today we explore some treatment using Yoga Asanas. These techniques are given by Abhinav Sagar, Yoga teacher at the Grand Hotel, Delhi.
Tadasana: Entwine fingers and straighten arms above your head, palms facing upwards. Push your body up to stand on your toes and breathe in. Bring your hands down and breathe out. Do 10 rounds. This also stretches your spine and removes impurities.
Makrasana: Lie on your abdomen, place your elbows in front and rest your chin on your palms. Hold for 2 minutes to start with, and increase to 5-10. This strengthens the lower back.
Ardhashalabhasana: Lie on your abdomen, with both arms under your thighs and raise one leg at a time. Do 10 rounds. This increases energy flow to the back and strengthens the spine.
Marjariasana: Kneel on hands and knees with your spine parallel to the floor. Move your neck up and down and inhale. Repeat as your exhale. Do 20 rounds. This tones and strengthens muscles.
Please note: All exercises should be done with care and with the approval of your doctor. These tips are for general backache. If you have other symptoms related to the spine, neck or back, consult experts before trying anything on your own.
