September 3, 2007
There are many different reasons for experiencing the feeling of heaviness in the stomach or being bloated. One of them could be due to Aerophagy. The air that we swallow when we eat goes directly into our stomach instead of the lungs. There is nothing to be alarmed about but there are few precautions which we can take to avoid this.
1) Chew your food slowly. Don’t be in a hurry to finish.
2) Do not drink too much water while eating.
3) Try and avoid drinking with a straw.
4) Stop drinking aerated drinks. They really can give that feeling instantly.
5) Incomplete digestion of food or eating very greasy, spicy food can cause gas. Some people have a tendency to produce gas more than others.
6) Certain foods rich in fibre when not digested properly can also cause the stomach to bloat. So find out which food gives you this bloated and heaviness and reduce its consumption.
Look for food substitutes so that you can still nourish your body and become free of this heavy feeling.
Please note there are many other reasons and causes of feeling bloated, heavy with an inflated stomach. These tips are for general well-being. If you suffer from other stomach ailments or taking medications for other health problems, then these tips are not meant for you. Kindly consult a doctor for treatment.

Hello,
I am sure since you have been suffering for a long time, you must have consulted some specialists. At times, certain lentils, meat and various food combinations can also trigger this. Some people find relief in chewing on roasted carom seeds or ajwain after every meal. But please note these are just suggestions and home remedies tried by some patients. We wish you speedy recovery.
