Heartburns-Understanding Acid Reflux Treatment-GERD

November 2, 2007

Heartburn Have you ever felt a burning sensation in the centre of your chest after a meal? Sometimes it is painful but you think if you ignore it, it will go away.

Severe chronic heartburn can be due to gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) disorders or some other digestive disorder. Millions of people suffer from this daily. Precaution and care should be taken so that proper treatment can be diagnosed.

Acid Reflux Treatment (GERD) varies from person to person depending on their level of acidity. Some patients are made aware of their lifestyle that is the cause of their condition. Excessive drinking, smoking, skipping meals, and many factors such as these can accumulate and over a period of time come out as heartburns.

Lifestyle changes can really reduce gastro-esophageal reflux disease like eating smaller meals throughout the day. The large meal tends to expand the stomach and puts an upward pressure against the esophageal sphincter. Avoid foods with a lot of oil and grease, acidic fruit juices like lemon, orange, tomato, grapefruit and even lemonade.

Avoid lying down immediately are a meal. Rest 2 hours after the meal has been consumed. Otherwise the digestive juices tend to reverse back instead of going down.

Managing weight is essential in patients suffering from heartburn. Obesity causes an abdominal pressure which can then push stomach contents up into the esophagus. Many people buy chewable antacids to get rid of the heartburn but this is just prolonging the symptoms for diagnosis.

It is best to consult a specialist and get a proper treatment. If diagnosed early simple changes can make all this disappear but if it gets complicated and severe then there are surgical options like Fundoplication and Radiofrequency Treatment.

I’ve the worst heartburn and have been taking prescription drugs. But they only helped to bring short-term relief. I am now using a product called Aloecure which I started to take last month. I like it a lot, as I can now eat better and sleep better. Has anyone tried this product? Can anyone tell me whether I can discontinue the use of prescription drugs?
