Managing Acnes And Blemishes Beyond The Teenage Years
November 4, 2007
We all associate pimples, acnes and blemishes with the teenage years but many of us suffer them even after thirties and forties. It is embarrassing at times. We keep applying various off the shelf products to subdue them or cover them with make-up.
Here are some reasons that cause pimples, acnes and blemishes beyond the teenage years:
1) Smoking: Blackheads or whiteheads are common among smokers because smoking causes thickening of the cells plus changes the fat in the skin causing blockages.
2) Make-Up: If the spots are red then it is probably a condition called peri-oral dermatitis that links to bacteria. Foundation that has been open for more than a year can be the cause.
3) Waxing: Waxing can trigger swelling in the hair follicles which then trap oil and bacteria. Spots around the mouth may also be caused by tooth whiteners.
4) Refined Carbs: Refined carbohydrate thickens skin cells and increase oil production. Switching to a diet of fresh fruits, vegetables and wholegrain can cut the incidence in half in few weeks.
5) Stress: Stress increases production of male hormones that boost oil production.
6) Digestion: If the bowel movement is sluggish then toxins in the body will not be removed and cause breakouts. The best way to tackle this is to drink plenty of water and increase the intake of fibre rich foods.
7) Cellular Phones: Acne Mechanica is the medical term for acne that occurs after exposure to heat, friction and pressure and it is increasingly linked to cellular phones or mobile phones. It is best to go hands free, until the problem is resolved.
8) Tap Water: Some water contains high levels of calcium and magnesium which can change the skin’s oils from liquid to a pore clogging wax. Using skin care product containing ingredients called chelators help as they absorb minerals from water.

The facial skin is very delicate. It needs a lot of care and nurturing. Before using any new product for treatment, it is best to consult a skin specialist rather than buying ointments from over the counters or getting influenced by products in advertisements.
