Muscle Injuries During Workout? Learn How To Avoid Them
August 6, 2007
A sprain, muscle pull, ligament tear or just an ache after a workout is a common cry among gym goers. Such muscle injuries put you out of commission for days, your mood is all sour and when it doesn’t heal, then there are trips to the doctor’s clinic.
There are many reasons for muscle injuries to occur while working out.
1) High Expectations: Most people when they join a gym expect the results of weight loss, muscle development and toning to happen within weeks of workout. In the desire of quick results they try to do exercises which are too advanced for their fitness level.
2) Wrong Advice: This is a very common occurrence-taking advice from gym colleagues. You have to understand that they are also there to develop their body just as you. They are not trained and nor do they have any expertise. What works for one person’s body doesn’t necessarily work for another. Their half baked ideas on fitness can be detrimental to you if you do what they say without the guidance of a certified fitness trainer.
3) Improper Weight Selection: In a rush to achieve maximum optimization of the gym membership, people workout at a fast pace. They assume lifting the heaviest possible weight will reap better and faster results. So injuries are inevitable.
4) Starvation: Insufficient intake of the right kind of food or starving to lose weight can lead to injuries too. The body is already fatigued because of poor diet and with that heavy exercising only makes the body susceptible to easy pains and soreness of muscles and tendons.
5) Lack Of Rest: The body needs to rest after a good intense workout. Many people fail to understand this. They tend to work on the same body part the following day again or engage in sports that uses those muscles repeatedly. As a result, the muscles wear and tear doesn’t heal in time and leads to severe injury.
With these pointers in mind I hope henceforth your injuries at the gym will surely be lesser. Workout smart and you will wiser in getting good results to be proud of.
