Protein Supplements Essential For Muscle Tone

March 30, 2008

Toned MusclesPeople head to the gym with some purpose. Some want to lose weight; others want a well-toned body while some go to the gym to hangout with friends.

The serious gym-goers set goals and follow a strict regime. They are consciously working for that perfect muscle tone. Muscle development requires protein. As one continues to workout, there comes a point where the muscles get tired and torn. It is only protein that can repair this damage.

Most of the time, our diet does not provide that high level of protein most needed for muscle development. Protein supplements play a vital role here. Whey protein can be added to milkshakes which instantly replenishes the protein inadequacies. Regular weight training enthusiasts should always remember that protein is essential to build muscle mass. They should consume roughly a gram and a half of it for every two kilos of their body weight daily. If you find that your diet doesn’t provide it then switch to protein supplements.

Milk protein also helps in bodybuilding but they burn at a slower rate. Protein supplements are available in most health and fitness outlets. Read the labels and find out which product is well suited to your body type and lifestyle.

Don’t deter from the goals that you have set for yourself. Be informed about all the health options and make your own decision.

    Hi Subodh,
Could you elaborate on what exactly you are looking for? I don’t follow your question. Do you want to gain muscle mass? If so tell me your age, height, weight, diet and workout regime.

    Hi
There are immense number of reasons as to why you are not gaining muscle mass. Let me try and address this step by step.
First, does your diet contain sufficient amount of protien? They are crucial for muscle mass. You haven’t written whether you are a vegetarian or non-vegetarian. Fruits are good to maintain your overall well being but not for muscle gain.
Second, how often do you eat? You need to consume 5-6 small meals spread out through the day. This will help you increase your metabolic rate.
Third, how intense is your workout? Only lifting weights is not enough. You should have a progressive way to tone muscle and strengthen them. You should also know the right technique of now a particular body part needs to be worked out and stretched.
Fourth, building muscle doesn’t happen instantly. It takes time, discipline and a lot of hard work. Your diet is crucial in this. Avoid eating junk food, sugary treats and concentrate on a high protein diet. You haven’t mentioned how many times a week you workout and how long.
Intensity is the way to build muscle. This is just a basic guideline that I have written. There is much more to this. So just check out these factors and see where it takes you. Feel free to write in again.
    Good luck.

    Hi Sunny,
Looks like you have a lean structure which is not bad. Most people are aiming for a lean look rather than bulk. 2 years is still not much to get a desired body. You must remember getting the perfect body takes time and more so for those who are vegetarian. I am not a big fan of supplements but prefer getting everyday normal food.
To increase your protein intake, add soya in your diet in the form of dals or eat soya rotis. You can add soya atta with nachi atta and little wheat flour and make good rotis. All these are available in any grocery store.
You can also try nutrela that is soya chunks to your diet. It can be added to any vegetable preparation. Eat daily bowl of sprouts like chana, moong etc after workout. If you like to eat it just soaked that too is fine or you can even boil it.
Don’t give up, keep working out and remember nothing can replace natural foods available from nature. Feel free to write in again, if you need any clarification.
    Good Luck

    Hello Harvinder,
There are lots to consider when planning someone’s diet- their genetic makeup, lifestyle and climate. You are still very young and I would encourage you to consult a nutritionist or a professional health consultant.
At this tender age, a wrong diet or unhealthy combination of food can affect your overall growth and development.

    Good luck
