Simple Foods Are The Best Source Of Good Health
January 1, 2008
Let 2008 be a year of good health for you and your loved ones and the best way to ensure that is to eat the right kind of foods.
It has been my experience that the simplest combinations of food are the ones which provide maximum benefit to the body. Sometimes too much variety can lead to excess eating. For example if we start with our breakfast, we have whole wheat toast, low-fat fruit yogurt, fresh fruits, buns, bagels, croissants and tons of varieties of cereals. Each of these breakfast foods have another twenty different combinations of flavors and additives to spice up our taste buds in the morning.
So what happens? Some of us land up eating a bit of everything and lose out on our control on eating. A simpler way to start a good day is to eat simple foods like oats. Simple breakfast of oats with milk has tremendous health benefits because oats contain 55% of soluble fibre. Its complex carbohydrates are known to reduce risk of colon, breast and prostate cancer. It helps to manage diabetes and constipation. You will be surprised to know that on a per gram basis, oats contain a higher concentration of protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, thiamin, folacin and vitamin E than any other fortified whole grain, such as wheat, barley corn or rice.
Tuffs University researchers reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showing that eating a diet rich in oats significantly reduced both blood pressure and cholesterol. Oats are naturally low in fat and its lipids content contain a good balance of essential fatty acids which has been linked with longevity and general wellbeing.
So start 2008 with the right intentions of rejuvenating the body cells with the balanced source of nutrients to renew good health again.
