Sulphur Spring Bath Relieves Muscle And Joint Pain
November 2, 2008
I was very skeptical when I was told that a sulphur bath miraculously reduces all types of muscle aches and joint pains. My travels to some of the hot springs around Maharashtra, India didn’t really encourage me to test this. Surely, I could see the bubbles in the water and the smoky layer around it but the smell was awful. The odor of rotting eggs engulfed the atmosphere and I found it extremely hard to breathe.
The locals seemed to be unaffected by it. Few tourists made attempts to soak their feet but the sight of bubbles petrified them. I didn’t hang around to see their success rate.
My travel to Manali, Himachal Pradesh gave me another opportunity to explore the wonders of natural sulphur spring. The odor of rotten eggs lingered subconsciously. But I was assured that this water is natural spring and I should give it a try.
Asia Sulphur Spring is a well-maintained hotel located between Kulu and Manali. This is the only hotel here that provides this experience and extends their facilities to those who are not the occupants of the hotel as well. Since it was the off season, I was fortunate enough to instantly get a booking. I was guided to a large bathing room which could easily accommodate ten people at a time. The pipe’s outlet was adjusted using pliers and within seconds spring water came out gushing.
This bathing room was old fashioned which had five steps leading down. It was similar to a trench but much larger. You could sit at the edge to soak up or take a plastic chair provided to get closer to the water force.
For that moment in time, I ruled the waters. There was no whiff of sulphur in the air and the water was steaming hot. It took me few seconds to get used to the naturally heated liquid. But soon my joints seem to respond to it. The force of the spring water reversed the effects of slouching at my desk for endless hours. Soon the room filled with steam and my skin glowed in it.
My regime came to an end after forty minutes and I decided to face the real world again feeling lighter, with a pink hue. Over the years, I have experimented with aromatherapy, Ayurvedic massages and Reflexology but nothing comes closer to bathing in natural sulphur spring water.
According to Wolfgang Brueckle, the chief physician of a German rheumatism clinic, bathing in such water causes the muscles throughout the entire body to relax. This makes the body’s connective tissue become more flexible.
The blood vessels widen, thus increasing the pulse and metabolic rate. Blood flow to the skin increases, which leads to an improvement in the absorption of oxygen and minerals. Sulphide enters the blood through the skin, and where needed it contributes to the healing process. This inhibits some joint inflammation and helps in the reconstruction of articular cartilage. Thermal sulphur baths are well-suited for the treatment of illnesses of the musculoskeletal system.
So the next time, you need to relax and rejuvenate think of sulphur baths and make sure its natural spring water.
