The Ache Of A Bunion

September 9, 2007

In our previous post on foot care Foot Care-10 Simple Tips To Change The Face Of Your Feet dealt with common foot problems and how to keep simple bacteria and fungal infections at bay. This article takes a closer look at another foot related problem-Bunion.  A bunion is a sore, swollen bump on the foot at the joint of the big toe. It can be very sore as well as painful. At times, surgery is recommended to relieve the pain.

The following are the suggestions by the American Academy Of Orthopedic Surgeons on how to prevent a bunion.

  • Never try to force your foot into a shoe that doesn’t fit well or is too tight.

  • Wear soft-soled shoes with wide insteps and ample space for the toes.

  • Don’t wear any heels higher than 2¼ inches.

  • Avoid pointy-toed shoes.

  • Wear cushioned pads in your shoes to prevent a bunion, and also to ease the pain of a bunion that has already formed.
