The Sweet Health Benefits Of Drinking Sugarcane Juice

August 5, 2007

SugarCane Over 200 countries grow sugarcane and in 2005 Brazil was its largest producer. Besides production of sugar, it is used to produce Falernum – sweet syrup used in the Tropical and Caribbean cocktails. Sugarcane is also used to make molasses, rum, Cachaca- the national spirit of Brazil and ethanol for fuel. The end product that remains behind after the stalks are crushed and the juice is extracted is used to provide heat energy, used in the mill, and electricity, which is typically on-sold to the consumer electricity grid.

Freshly extracted sugarcane juices by hand or electric machines are very common. They are served with ice cubes and at times with lemon juice or rock salt.

    Hi Sharlene,
So nice of you to write in. Actually most people consume sugar cane juice because the sugar is not refined like the sugar we put in our tea and coffee (simple sugar). I am sure everything in moderation is good for health. Good Luck

Where can I purchase pure sugar cane juice? I’m going to detox and I need large quanties of it. If I grew it myself, could I use a juicer to get the juice? Thanks.

  10. Nayna on May 17th, 2009 11:08 am

    Hi Bobbie,
Could you tell me from which part of the globe you are from because I cannot direct you to a store unless I know in which city you live in? Sugarcane cannot be crushed in a normal blender/juicer. It requires special sort of juicer as the sugarcane pieces/shreds of the stalk have to be removed.
If you see the photograph above in the post, that is the kind of juicer you need-metal with roller like blades and with a handle which as you turn, it squeezes out the juice from the stalk and comes out dry from the other end.

    hi nayna,

i am from southern philippines, where sugarcane plantations are not far away. i would like to know how much is the sugarcane juicer shown on your photo and where could i buy it. I would appreciate if if you could point me to its website to get more details (such as the juicing capacity & efficiency, ease of maintenance, etc).

thanks and more power to you!

    Hi Cris,
Its nice to know that you have easy access to fresh sugarcane. We envy you. Regarding your question on the purchase of the juicer. There are many websites that sell them online like sugarcanemachine.com that is based in Miami. Maybe you can contact them and find out if they can ship to you in Philipllines.
    Good Luck

um I want to know how to make sugarcane juice and sugar and molasses by hand not machine. can you tell me where I might find that info. and thanks for posting that info I was wondering if you could just drink it. um some sites I went to said it was dirty, do you have to clean the sugarcane juice with lime too?

  16. Nayna on September 28th, 2009 11:23 am

    Dear Lauren,
It is difficult to extract sugarcane juice by hand without the use of any manchine, unless you mean hand held device and not an automated machine. You will have to look for it at the stores near your locality. Online shops usually have industrial machines. If you live outside the US then you can order the machines from South East Asians countries like Phillipines and Singapore. Regarding your third question. You need to wash the sugarcane sticks thoroughly before putting them in the crushing machine and extract the juice.
    Hope this helps
    Best Wishes
