Vegetarians Can Build Muscle Mass
August 13, 2007
Yes, it is true. Vegetarians can build muscle mass just like those who follow a non vegetarian diet. Many believe that the protein content in meat, eggs cannot be substituted. But this is a myth.
Muscle strength grows with regular training, proper modes of exercising and diet. All these three go hand in hand. Miss out on one and you lose out in the desired results.
So what can vegetarians eat to gain muscle mass?
Milk: This is the best source of calcium and vitamin D for the body and especially for the bones and teeth. The vitamins B2 and B12 coaxes the body to produce more red blood cells. The red blood cells bring oxygen to the body’s cells.
Soy: This contains antioxidants, Vitamin E and amino acids.
Yogurt: This is another byproduct of milk. Its rich in calcium, vitamin B and D. It helps to build a strong immune system.
Pulses, legumes, nuts and oilseeds when eaten in correct moderation work wonders in building the body. Strength training takes a while to develop and nourishing the body with the right combination of food, water and rest takes the body to a new level.
So the next time, you think being a vegetarian is not working for your body. Don’t give up. Being a vegan has more positive effects than the non-vegetarian diet but for that you will have to watch out for our future posts.
