What Is Love? An Emotion Or An Overrated Word
October 3, 2007
The emotion of love has been twisted and manipulated to suit each one’s needs. People say “I Love You” because sometimes it becomes a necessity and other times just for survival.
The current expression of love is more of a mutation of an emotion that has been overrated with materialistic needs and desires. Its true essence can rarely be captured. Maybe it is a word that is used to evoke some feelings but now those feelings don’t seem to arise genuinely.
We see couples romancing, dating and binding one another in relationships. Is that what is love? Or is it a necessity for physical gratification or bringing an offspring into this world?
Once upon a time, marriages used to be based on love but now it is a means to an end. The institution of marriage is constantly under the microscope to evaluate the true meaning of relationships. It is now only based on money, status and fame. For some love means sacrifice. In a relationship, couples are known to give up things for the person they love. They adjust and compromise because that is how they are conditioned to sustain the loving bond. But does that really help? You make yourself miserable thinking it is for the best but in the end you are left with nothing because the partner has found someone better.
Break-ups, loveless marriages and abusive relationships are physical and emotional scars that each one faces when they indulge in this emotion called love. But this sentiment of passion is so addictive that they never give up and try again. Love is for fools and those who never tried it are scared to be fools. So go ahead, try being a fool, otherwise you will always wonder if you really lived this life to the fullest.
