Yogurt-An Essential Summer Cooler
April 7, 2008
Yogurt’s role in our diet is crucial. It provides us with a lot of essential vitamins, a portion of protein and minerals. It acts as the best summer cooler compared to any fruit juices available in the market. Here is a list of things you can do to make yogurt a part of your diet especially during summers.
1) Yogurt can be blended with fresh fruits like strawberry, mango, pineapple, orange and even mint leaves. These make delicious smoothies. It is very filling. If you are on a weight loss diet, this kind of combination adds a variety and freshness to your meals.
2) Chopped fruits and vegetables can be mixed with yogurt and made into interesting appetizers and dips.
3) Buttermilk and Lassi are best thirst quenchers in summers. They hydrate the body and replenish the lost minerals from the body.
4) Yogurt provides relief to those suffering from acidity and heart burn.
5) Research shows that those who consume yogurt regularly are less likely to suffer from gum disease and tooth loss. The bacteria present in them provide a coating that balances out the bad bacteria in the mouth.
6) It prevents dehydration.

- Pour in a tall glass with ice cubes. Garnish with mint sprig.
Varieties of Lassi are made with fruits and fruit syrups.
How To Make Buttermilk (An Indian Beverage)
This is made in the same way as Lassi. It differs in texture as it contains more portion of water than yogurt. Buttermilk is usually spiced up with cumin powder and rock salt.
