Backpacking-The Cheap And Leisurely Way To Travel
September 5, 2007
Everyone deserves a break from their mundane living. Often we want to go on a short holiday but the dread of planning that goes behind a trip discourages us. We may turn to weekend getaways but those places too require advance reservations. Moping around doesn’t really help the mood, so why not try something new like backpacking.
Backpacking is an easy, stress free and comparatively cheaper way to travel. It does need some preparation but the thrill to explore at your own convenience is rewarding.
What You Need To Know For A Backpacking Holiday:
1) Invest in a good backpack. They are various sizes and brands available in the market. Select the one which provides sufficient support to your back. If you are newbie to this then load bearing maybe a slight problem initially. Some bags provide soft padding so the back is comfortable; some also provide an adjustable belt at the waist. This helps to give a good lumbar support.
2) Make sure that you have sufficient compartments and the backpack is waterproof. Buy additional locks so that your things are safe and secure. Along with this you will also need a day-pack and a good sleeping bag.
3) With your gear in place, you can now plan where you would like to go and how would you prefer traveling. The most convenient is using the air because you save time. It is ideal to have an open ticket so that you can decide when you want to leave and get back. These tickets are usually cheaper than a return ticket.
4) It is always best to find out about the place you are traveling. Research on the internet and find out the weather conditions, the mode of transportations in the city, the places that are famous or if you want to explore the unbeaten trail.
5) Booking a room is essential, even if it is a low budget hotel or a hostel. Most backpackers decide to stay in a hostel which is very cheap. But they too need to be booked. Some hostels have small rooms where two people have to share while some have large rooms which can accommodate eight to ten people. This is your personal choice if you would like to share your space or would like to mingle with other people.
6) Purchase a guidebook of your destination. It gives you an in-depth understanding of the culture, detailed road maps, the food habits, best budget hotels and what all you can cover in your limited time.
So take a leap into an unknown territory and enjoy the experience. Sometimes roughing it out gives you an insight to life rather than always traveling in first class.
