March 22, 2008
Many women suffer from yeast infection and some may not even know it. It is mainly because they don’t have time for themselves and are too busy with work, family and household chores. Only when it gets worse and unbearable they wonder what went wrong.
Yeast infection is an irritation which occurs in and around the vagina. It is treatable but care should be taken as it has a tendency to come around often. There are many reasons for yeast infection. It could be due to hormonal changes during pregnancy or during periods, stress, lack of sleep, improper diet, pregnancy, birth control pills, douching, using antibiotics or medicines containing steroids, being diabetic and having elevated blood sugar levels which also can be due to excessive sugar in the diet. Wearing tight or synthetic panties and panty hose can also lead to this. There is not one thing that can easily pinpoint a yeast infection.
To know if a woman is suffering from a yeast infection, there are some blatant symptoms like extreme itchiness inside and around the vagina. The next sign is burning and redness around the vulva. Others include pain while urinating, discharge of thick, whitish, jelly like discharge and pain during intercourse.
There are many medications which can be taken orally and applied available over the counter for treating yeast infection. But it is advisable to get a pelvic check-up to find out how serious and wide spread it is. If you have sex regularly then the partner should also find out it he too is contaminated with the infection. Otherwise it will be a yo-yo effect. You will get treated and your partner could be giving it back to you without you knowing it.
Yeast infection happens to every woman in their lifetime. It is important to know, understand and seek guidance from specialists.
